Bettina De Ruyck

Doctoral Researcher, Governance & Strategy

Bettina’s research explores how both CEO compensation and cognition affect firm strategy and performance.

Bettina De Ruyck is a doctoral researcher in the field of strategic management – and more specifically strategic leadership and corporate governance. She joined Vlerick Business School in 2018 as a researcher in the Executive Remuneration Research Centre and the Centre for Excellence in Strategic Rewards.

Bettina’s PhD research focuses on how top executives shape their strategic decisions that affect firm performance - and the systems that are in place to ensure that executives make decisions in the best interest of the firm. Her research in this domain consists of two streams. The first research stream is about executive compensation and its link with firms’ Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) efforts. The second research stream is about how the cognition of top executives affects their strategic decision-making and firm performance. She uses data from European and American public firms.
