Professor of Corporate Finance
Vlerick Business School’s Masters in Financial Management programme has once again improved its position in the Financial Times Masters in Finance Ranking. Rising 10 places last year, we’ve gone up another 3 places this year – and we’re now holding the 22nd position in the world. On a European level, we are ranked 19, moving up 3 places as well. And we remain the only Belgian school listed in the table. Our CFA-accredited programme provides an excellent broad and in-depth corporate finance education, complemented with relevant management skills. Currently, the programme has 48 students representing 18 different nationalities.
According to Professor Wouter De Maeseneire, Programme Director of our Masters in Financial Management, this result is a great achievement: “We are very satisfied to see we could confirm our position amongst the top finance programmes, which is reflective of the programme’s added value and our relentless efforts to further optimise it and keep it up to date with new trends emerging in the world of business and finance. We are particularly pleased with the high satisfaction of our alumni with their overall programme experience and aims achieved.”
Our performance is driven by the outstanding career services we provide to our students, for which we consolidate our 10th position in the world. The successful careers of our graduates are equally reflected in their salaries which show a 77% increase between graduation and three years later.
Secondly, our efforts to increase the diversity of our student body are paying off. With the help of our Women in Finance scholarship, we succeeded in attracting more women to the programme, increasing the number of female students by 11%. Similarly, with the Science Talent scholarship, we encourage students with a non-business study background, such as exact sciences or engineering, to consider starting a career in Finance.
Another explanation for our performance is the strong scores for ‘value for money’ (19th), and for ‘international course experience’ (23rd). On top of the finance trips to London and Amsterdam, students can opt for an extended international experience by doing their in-company consultancy internship abroad or going on an exchange to one of our partner schools including EDHEC in France, Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden, Frankfurt School of Finance and Management in Germany or NOVA in Portugal. This year, we have also launched a double degree collaboration with the Darla Moore School of Business in South Carolina, US, allowing our students to gain a degree in International Business on top of their studies at Vlerick Business School.
Finally, we jump no less than 34 spots for our carbon footprint rank, going from 45 to 11 in the world. This criterion takes into account the net zero year for carbon emissions that Vlerick has set for itself as a target and reflects our commitment to embed sustainability systematically throughout the school.
Like all Vlerick Masters programmes, our Masters in Financial Management is rooted in the real business world. Students learn tangible skills through:
